Who we are

Kestrel is an AI search visibility service operated by Rooted Works Co. in Orangeville, Ontario, Canada. If you have a question about this policy or your information, email info@askkestrel.ca.

What we collect

  • What you type into our form: your name, email address, phone number (optional), business name, town or city, type of business, website (optional), other names your business goes by (optional), and whether you'd like our newsletter.
  • Public information about your business: to run your check, we look up your business and nearby competitors in public sources such as Google Maps, and we collect the answers AI apps give to questions about your type of business in your area.
  • Messages you send us: if you email us, we keep that correspondence.
  • Website usage: our site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are useful. It uses cookies and collects information such as pages viewed, your general location and the device you use. It doesn't tell us who you are.

How we use it

  • To run your free check, prepare your report and email it to you.
  • To answer your questions and, if you sign up, to provide the plan you chose.
  • To make sure each business receives one free check.
  • To send you our newsletter, only if you ticked the box asking for it.
  • To understand how our website is used and improve it.

We don't sell your information, and we don't use it for anything you haven't asked for.

Your consent

By submitting our form, you agree to us using your information to run your check and send your report. Joining the newsletter is a separate choice. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any newsletter, or by emailing us, and we'll stop right away.

Who we share it with

We use a small number of service providers to run Kestrel. They only receive what they need to do their part:

  • AI providers (OpenAI, Google, Perplexity and Anthropic) receive your business name, town and type of business so we can ask their apps about it. They don't receive your name, email or phone number.
  • Google for business listing lookups, website analytics, and the email account we use to send your report.
  • Cloudflare, which hosts this website.
  • Our automation server, which runs the check and stores your request and report.
  • Telegram, which we use to receive notifications about new requests, including your name, business and email.

Some of these providers store or process information outside Canada, mainly in the United States, where it may be subject to the laws of that country.

Your report

Your report is available at a private link that contains a random code. It isn't listed on our website or in search engines, but anyone you share the link with can open it.

How long we keep it

We keep your request and report while they're useful to you and to us, and for no more than two years after our last contact with you, unless you're a client, in which case we keep them for as long as you are. You can ask us to delete them sooner.

Your rights

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted. Email info@askkestrel.ca and we'll respond within 30 days. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Keeping it safe

We use reputable providers, secure connections and password-protected accounts, and we limit access to the people who need it to run Kestrel.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
